The role of a man and a woman in society is influenced by a variety of factors. These factors vary with the religion, culture, climate, historical beliefs, living principles and experiences across the globe.

These roles were segregated on the basis of sex, but now it is more of a choice and based on the interest of an individual. However, there are many societies in the world which continue to stick to the traditional gender roles. A female is usually expected, obliged to do or interested in household work and child care, leaving professional and social roles more for the males...

What is a summary?
It is a record in a reader's own words. A summary omits details.

What is a good summary?
It should answer basic questions about the article:
What is the main idea?
What are the main supporting points?
What are the major pieces of evidence?


1. read the article.
2. re-read the article and underline important ideas.

Now we can start!

1. Write one single, very broad statement, to say what it is about. (In "/name of article/" /author/ states... )
2. Write the main points that are made in the article. Use your own words.
3. Write in one sentence the main point that the author makes in the conclusion.

Make sure:
- that the main idea of the text is not lost
-you do not give your own ideas or critisisms as part of the summary
- you replace (I with the writer's actual surname or he/she; you with "people" or "they")

There's less than two weeks left before the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July in South Africa.

The football World Cup joins the world in celebration. For football players, the best feeling in life is to score the winning goal for their country in football’s World Cup matches. For fans, it is the best time to enjoy the best in football and for players, it is the best time to show themselves representing their countries.

So, we can not ignore this event. I guess that some girls do not like football at all. For this reason, I do not want to narrow the topic. That's why I suggest you write about your expectations for this event. Be honest expressing your feelings about football in general and World Cup period in particular.
